Pismo State Beach, One of a Kind in California
Pismo State Beach stretches for over 15 uninterrupted miles along the coast. The beach itself is wide offering plenty of open space. The Pismo Dunes and Oceano Dunes stretch inland from the beach. At the Grover Beach onramp, 1 mile south of the Pismo Pier, vehicles are allowed to drive out onto the beach and use it in the area going south. To the north vehicles are not allowed.

Dogs are welcome on the beach and owners are expected to clean up if needed. With so many miles of beach and dunes to roam it is a favorite beach for dog owners. The entire stretch of beach allows dogs and there are no time restrictions on when dogs can be on the beach. For this reason, Pismo Beach, the Pismo Dunes and the Oceano Dunes are favorite spots for dog owners.
Three Coastal Villages, Each With a Different Character
Three small coastal towns border Pismo State Beach. These are the towns of Pismo Beach, Grover Beach and Oceano. Each town has a unique character and together they offer a wide variety of resources, lodging, entertainment and restaurants.
Town of Pismo Beach Features the Pismo Pier
Pismo Beach, the town, has the Pismo Pier, over 1,000 feet long. Pismo Beach is known as “Classic California.” It has the pier, surfers, swimming, beach volleyball, seafood restaurants, classic car shows, live classic rock and other music. Other activities in the town of Pismo Beach include the Health Club with an olympic pool, spa and fitness training. There are also Farmers Markets, festivities at the Pismo Pier, beachcombing, walking and even bicycling on the beach. Bowling and playing pool are also only a few blocks from the Pismo Pier.
Grover Beach Is a Town Adjacent to Pismo Beach, the Town, and Pismo State Beach
Grover Beach is the town adjacent to Pismo Beach to the south of it. Grover Beach has the Pismo Beach Golf Course, right on the beach. Next to the Golf Course is the Monarch Butterfly Preserve with its eucalyptus trees and paths. Thousands of Monarch Butterflies arrive each year during the migration. From Fall through Spring the trees are loaded with clusters of Monarch Butterflies and the air is full of them flying. A one mile long boardwalk over the dunes and system of paths leads from the Grover Beach onramp to the beach to the north and ends at the Pismo Pier.

Oceano Is Famous for the Dunes and Driving on the Beach
Oceano is a small town adjacent to Grover Beach that also sits on Pismo State Beach. Oceano is known as the Gateway to the Oceano Dunes. Cars, RVs and ATVs can drive out onto the beach at the Oceano onramp. There are miles of beach and dunes with trails for the ATVs. Oceano has a variety of restaurants, lodging and entertainment.

The climate on the California Central Coast is a mild, mediterranean climate. It is relatively dry compared to other climate types. In the winter there are usually some rainstorms but in general winters are relatively mild.
Throughout the year outdoor activities are easy to enjoy with the mild, dry weather. Fall, Winter and Spring are when rains do occur but the overall rainfall is fairly low. It is rated as a semi-arid climate and droughts can occur.

San Luis Obispo is the county seat, located about 15 miles away. The California State Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo is a source of many activities, entertainment, social events and ongoing education. Cuesta Junior College, nearby, also adds to the resources and activities available in the area.
